great archaeological writing
Wow. This is the definitive book on the Maya. Whether youre a student or a scholar, its got almost everything. Very readable prose, good organization, and excellent photographs. In fact, they are almost the best part. The organization is excellent providing first an overview, chapter by chapter of major events in Maya history, and then a dissection of every major aspect of Maya life. If the Maya are your thing, dont miss this book. Great value for money.

The authority on the Ancient Maya
This book has had many re-printings, and for good reason. It is THE english language book that covers the anicient Maya in one volume. This book was used as a text in a class I took in Mesoamerican archaeology. I found it easy to read and very interesting. Great for a travel companion. I used it extensively while traveling through Yucatán and Chiapas.

Well researched.
This book is well researched and very informative.

Property Management For Dummies®
Published in Paperback by For Dummies (January, 2002)
Author: Robert S. Griswold
Average review score:

You are not a "Dummy" if you read this book.
I met the author at a meeting of the Institute of Real Estate Management in Chicago several years ago. I hold the same "Certified Property Manager (CPM)" designation. So, I did a double take recently when I saw this book on the shelf of a book store. And I did a triple take when I saw that Robert had written it! Robert Griswold is an educator, and it shows in the book. I've been in property management for over 20 years and I bought the book and took it home for several evenings of enjoyable reading. (By the way, my wife thinks I'm nuts! I can't leave my work at the office.) Robert Griswold writes at the easiest common denominator. The book is entertaining and answers the wide variety of questions. Most property managers are "generalists", meaning you have to know a lot of things about a lot of topics: collecting rents, fixing up space, evicting tenants, dealing with difficult people, roof specialist, bookkeeper/accountant, landscape specialist, plumbing specialist, HVAC specialist, etc., etc. One thing that any property manager will know, it is a very detailed career. If you are a person with an interest in property management, a novice or a long-time veteran, this is a must-read book.

A Must Have Reference On Propery Management
Robert Griswold's Property Management For Dummies is a wonderfully practical digest on property management covering every applicable subject both for those considering becoming a landlord and for long time landlords. Easy to read, and easy to jump right to the subject on which one needs the most help, Mr. Griswold's years of experience and wisdom are made accessable to the reader. Having been a property manager for over three years now, I was surprised by how much I learned from this book. For anyone considering property management or being a landlord, this book lets one know in advance all the factors to weigh before making that leap. I'll state it again -- you must have this book if you are in any way going to be involved in property management.

The best information on property management is in this book!
Whether you live on the east coast or the west coast, looking to own a condo or a multi unit investment, this book will help answer a majority of the most puzzling questions a landlord might have in managing a property. It gives simplified step by step instructions on each process throughout the book....fun to read and very clearly written.

If you are about to enter the world of being a landlord, this book will tell you the rules. Every person needs this book for his or her financial self-defense and peace of mind. Read this book and preclude the problem before it happens.

Tombs Travel and Trouble
Published in Hardcover by Alexander Books (May, 2001)
Authors: Lawrence Griswold and Mike Resnick
Average review score:

Jungle Fever
I picked up a hard copy first edition of this at the Strand in NYC. This is the type of book I love. Well written adventure in a world that has passed. What has also passed is book quality. The edition I have is so solidly put together, someone will pick up same in 2070 and no doubt enjoy this book as much as I did. A testament to the hardware and software . The 20 and 30s period was at the cusp of when the jungles of Malaysia, Panama, and Brazil were not yet overly intruded upon by the outside world. Lawrence's sense of humor in the many situations ultimately demonstrate his respect for the locals and locale (but his being a "boss" on these expeditions hides that a bit). Incidences of death amongst colleagues, porters, and now rare wildlife (there are few tiger hunts here that are bit sad)are too easily put aside. But on a one off basis there are some great moments with the West Pointer in Panama, the irresponsible American kid taken along to the Philippines, the hardships of the overweight archeologist up the Amazon, the tiger encounter in Malaysia and more. I laughed aloud many times. This balances the distress one gets on a de-capitation or two and depletion of Sumatran rhinos. An excellent read. Some of the situations tie out so wonderfully here that one wonders about some creeping fiction. I have found though that travel done right leads one into situations that can not be made up. Lawrence, I keep my doubts in check.

An Outstanding Work of Ridiculous Self-Importance
Lawrence Griswold's account of his travels in South America and southeast Asia in the 1920s and 30s is as endearing as it is ridiculous. Much in the same manner as the geographers and historians of the ancient world, his narrative walks the fine line between epic real-life experience and absurd, cliched hyperbole. The result is an entertaining tale of faraway places in a time when the world was a little less accessible, and political correctness had not yet been invented. Griswold's unflappable persona in the work coupled with his descriptions of the people he meets along the way provides most of the humor, as well as the ridiculousness of several of the situations in which he and his traveling companions find themselves. The anecdotal and episodic nature of the book means that it is not a whole unit overall, but Griswold does an excellent job of finishing his creation with flourish: the tale of the Komodo dragon and the castor oil.

Real life Indiana Jones and his true tall tales.
Our all-American adventurer friend, Lawrence Griswald takes his archaeology passion to the jungles of Central and South America where he meets with killers, traps and really big snakes. Then, off to Indonesia to be the first to capture the deadly living dinosaur: the Komodo Dragon. If these 20's and 30's Indiana Jones adventures are to be believed, then Griswold was the greatest explorer ever. Otherwise, he's the greatest story spinner ever. Either way, who cares. Watch out for the chapter called "Thirst!"

Tibitz: A Land Of No Lies

a great insperation to all people of all ages!!!
I think this book teaches not only young people the importance of truth but honesty is the key to all life and this book explains all of that. I think this book would do well with anyone any age that is looking for honesty and a beautiful way of it being expressed. It would do well in recovery book stores as well, I have this book and have shared it at many meetings and people are so in touch with the message and that is a higher power and honesty is what we all need to make this world a better place to live in. I recomend this book to everyone that is ready to get honest!!!!!

What Tibitz:A Land Of No Lies is about
When a stranger came up to my family and I, and gave us 'Tibitz:A Land Of No Lies' and said "For your little ones.", pointing to my friend and I, I got a little upset. I am almost 12, and the idea of a stranger giving me a picture book was ridiculous. Of course, we took it. When seeing the price ($12.95), we thought 'wow, this is pretty expensive!' As we started reading it, it seemed like a book meant for 4-year-olds, who are just learning to read. The words were short and easy, with bright pictures to go along. About halfway, my friend and I really got into the book. It is a very fast-flowing book, and we kept reading, and soon, we were done. This is a very suitable book for ALL ages. It teaches the meaning of life, and one of the most important rules of all: Not to lie. I have read this book at least 50 times, and it NEVER gets old. To me, it is a timeless classic, like Winnie-The-Pooh, or Cinderella. Children will enjoy flipping through this book. I am almost 12 years old, so I am writing this review from a child's point of view. If you have a child my age, I assure you they will love reading it over and over and over. It is all worth it! I have read it so much that I almost have it memorized in my head! Now, I think that the price on the book is not expensive at all. It is all worth it! Enjoy this book as a child or an adult.

A fantastic story!!
This book is written for children to instill values of honesty and morals. Despite that it is written for children, I read it and found it amazing. I am 31 years old with no children but found it inspirational. I, as an adult, appreciated its simplicity. We all make life more complicated than it has to be. The world of Tititz is ideal and can be achieved if we all just strive to be happy and appreciate those around us. Everyone should read this book. It is worth the short time it takes to read and will be a book you will want to read over and over and share with those around you. If you have children, it is a definite must.

The Angelspeake Book of Prayer and Healing: How to Work With Your Angels
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (November, 1997)
Authors: Barbara Mark and Trudy Griswold
Average review score:

Comforting and Informative
My interest in Angels started when I was a very small child. This book has answered many questions and helped me to better understand the power of Angels and Prayer.

Terrific Gift book or Self lifting book!
As an Angel lover and an Angel believer I was drawn to this title. It is easy reading and can be quite comforting. During a very difficult time I read it and truly felt better. There are many areas, such as LEARNING TO ASK and WHY PEOPLE DON'T ASK GOD FOR HELP? that give insight. There are stories shared, angelic drawings and changes in ink color to keep you directed and interested. A book that eases you from page to page.

This is probably one of the best ANGEL books I have read both in style and in content.

The Angelspeake Book of Prayer and Healing
I LOVE THESE BOOKS! I'VE READ THE BOOK, AND CAN'T EVER SEEM TO PUT THEM DOWN ONCE I START READING THEM. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE. MY FAMILY HAD A TRAGEDY IN OUR LIVES ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO AND THE BOOKS ARE STILL HELPING US COPE. THESE ARE BOOKS YOU CAN READ AGAIN AND AGAIN. PICK ONE UP, YOU MAY BE SURPRISED HOW YOU FEEL AFTER YOU READ IT.

Angelspeake: How to Talk With Your Angels

Yeahhhhh, She Talks To Angels....
This is a great little book that I am going to pass on to a friend and hope that she will then pass on to a friend of hers and so on and so on.

Barbara and Trudy do a great job of very simply outlining to us mere mortals how to talk to (and hear back from) angels. It's a nice little book, beautifully illustrated with angels and quotes about and by angels, and you could easily read it in one setting, one night perhaps when you're tucked into bed and need something light and uplifting to send you off to sleep. I found the book to be a bit too simple, as if the authors were talking down to me, and I plan to read another book on the same subject, called _Divine Guidance_, by Doreen Virtue, to hopefully glean a bit more information.

I recommend this book. Buy it for yourself, read it, and then pass it on to a good friend.

This is a must read for Angel seekers.
I have never had a book touch my soul or change my life as this one has done for me. It gives you all the answers you might have. This book teaches you to relax and understand your Angels. I would give this book a rating of a thousand stars....not five! My Father came to me 6 years after his death WHILE I was reading a chapter that made me think of him. Since reading this book, I have found a new inner peace and have never felt closer to God or my Angels.

After reading this book, expect miracles to happen!
Right from the beginning I was hooked and read the book in one sitting. The text and style in which this book is written moved me to tears of revelation. Easy to read and easy to follow, this book will allow you to access inner peace and joy and heavenly knowledge. Truly know the meaning of a ripple effect, I plan on sharing this book with several of my friends so that they may know and share also. My heartfelt gratitude to Trudy and Barbara for following their angels direction and sharing it.
